Vision/Mission

The Steed Society, Inc. is dedicated to empowering the urban community thru innovative and engaging educational, motivational, and cultural initiatives.

For more than twenty years, The Steed Society, Inc. has demonstrated a commitment to nourishing a more resilient community. It began with promoting youth literacy and saluting women in business. We wanted to do more than just highlight individual successes and so we began to envision a larger platform. The Steed Society, Inc. believes in the possibilities that exist for everyone. Our goal is to share knowledge and encourage others on their journey to wellness, financial freedom, and entrepreneurship. We are investing in the next generation of dynamic leadership. By tapping into the diverse talent, skills, and resources available to our community, we are able to present powerful conferences, workshops, events, and targeted editorial.  This is more than a mission, it is a Movement, and we encourage everyone to join us.

We Stand on Six Pillars:

Health IQ

Our wellness as a community, is the foundation to our success. We are leading the fight by engaging some of the top health professionals in their fields to share their knowledge. We want to tap experts who know how to speak to us about everything from Covid-19 to diabetes, from nutrition to HIV, from fertility to cancer. We are here to encourage and support our families, friends, and neighbors in making the best choices for a better life!  Ex.

Literacy

Financial: We all want money, but most of us are not taught about how to handle our Finances. From opening your first checking account to investing in stocks, from buying your first home to paying for college, we want to assist you in making the best choices. Our ongoing series on Financial Literacy provides timely, accessible information to help build wealth and ultimate freedom.

Seeding Minds: From the beginning, The Steed Society has been dedicated to encouraging our Youth to see beyond any limitation. One of the ways is by planting seeds of aspiration. This initiative introduces our families to authors and storytellers who open new worlds of possibility through outstanding literature.

Entrepreneurship/Business Mentorship

How do we build on the economic aspirations of our community? We know that there are great ideas that are ready to be launched. We know that there are small businesses that need access to capital. We have consistently provided opportunities for young entrepreneurs to gain access to seasoned professionals thru workshops and seminars. In 2020 we took this to the next level with the Paperwork Project….

Voter Education and Engagement

Launched in Fall 2020, the Vote for Me Project is a platform thru which we can engage, educate, and empower our community about the election and legislative process. Our goal is to help build coalitions with organizations dedicated to identifying and addressing social issues thru the power of the Vote. A Vote for Me is a vote for criminal justice reform, living wages, equity in education and healthcare. We will support Voter Registration Drives, Town Halls, Know Your Rights Workshops and Activists Training.  Ex. Georgia Unity Coalition Photo

The Salon/ A Celebration of Arts and Culture

We recognize that creative expression from the visual arts to literature, from spoken word to dance, feeds the Soul of our community. We believe in providing opportunities for emerging artists to be introduced to new audiences. It is also important to recognize the Living Legends who have paved the way. Currently, we are involved in the restoration of the Margaret Burroughs Home in Chicago, which is a nationally recognized historic site. A visionary who played an important role in the Black Arts Movement and the development of the DuSable Museum, she was known for hosting Salons in her home. Artists, activists, and museums would gather to share and talk about issues of the day. In that Spirit, we will always provide a platform at our events to present and inspire the next generation of Creators.

Women Empowerment

For more than twenty years, we have hosted women empowerment workshops and seminars.

During Women’s Month 2002, we began with Sheroes, which presented some of the top leaders in their fields sharing their challenges and solutions. This commitment has continued as we continue to nurture and celebrate dynamic sisters across the country in every arena.
